For the purpose of transferring sample (synthesized compound) into vial and evaporate the solvent, rotary evaporator vial adapter is used. It can be purchased from various suppliers. But, what to do if ready-made vial adapter is not available at the time you need it? No worry, you can easily make it by yourself. For this, you just need rubber septum, capillary tube, and connector or bump trap.

Procedure: Appropriate sized rubber septum is selected and attached to the one end of the connector or bump trap (As shown in picture). Thereafter, make sure to avoid air leakage by sealing joint with parafilm. Finally, capillary tube is inserted right through the middle of the rubber septum. Be careful, capillary tube may break and hurt you. So, it’s suggested to prick the rubber septum with other strong sharp materials (for instance syringe) before inserting capillary. Caution:While operating rotary evaporator, hold the vial until enough pressure is developed, otherwise it may fall  into heating bath.

So, how do you transfer your sample into vial and evaporate solvent? Leave your view in the comment section below.
